What Imaging Tests Are Used for Mesothelioma?
Posted on: December 9, 2023 *Updated on: May 25, 2024Mesothelioma is typically diagnosed using one of four imaging tests. If there is a suspicion of this cancer, you will likely undergo one or more of the following procedures:
- X-ray
- Computed tomography (CT) scan
- Positron emission tomography (PET) scan
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan
Among these, X-rays and CT scans are the most commonly employed imaging techniques for mesothelioma diagnosis. However, it’s essential to note that some tests may be more effective for specific types of mesothelioma than others. For instance, CT scans may not be as reliable in detecting peritoneal mesothelioma due to potential confusion between gas in the intestines and tumors.
