Stage 1 Pleural Mesothelioma
Posted on: December 18, 2023 *Updated on: May 27, 2024Stage 1 Pleural Mesothelioma is characterized by a lack of metastasis and lymph node involvement, with tumors being small in size. This stage can be further classified into 1A and 1B.
In Stage 1A, mesothelioma cells are found only on the outer layer (parietal) of the pleura. In Stage 1B, the disease involves cells on both the inner cell wall (visceral) and the outer layer of the pleura. Fortunately, curative treatment options are available for both Stage 1A and Stage 1B.
The cancer is localized to the following areas:
- One side of the chest
- The lining of the chest wall
- The lining between the chest wall and lungs (pleura)
- The lining of the diaphragm
