Should You Get HIPEC Surgery Quickly After Cancer Diagnosis?

It may be best that cancer patients start their treatment right after they find out they have cancer. If you wait too long, the cancer might spread and it becomes harder to treat with surgery or other methods.

People who get treated right away tend to live longer. For those with a certain type of cancer called peritoneal mesothelioma, HIPEC surgery is the main treatment.

People who got the HIPEC surgery within a month of finding out they had cancer lived for over 5 years on average.

But the longer people waited, the shorter their lifespan:

  • Waiting 1-3 months after finding out — average life span of 4.8 years.
  • Waiting 3-6 months after finding out — average life span of 4.37 years.
  • Not getting surgery at all — average life span of 2.1 years.
