Pericardiocentesis Medical Procedure

Pericardiocentesis, also known as pericardial fluid aspiration, is a medical procedure used to obtain fluid from the vicinity of the heart. It is particularly valuable when there are suspicions of pericardial mesothelioma.

During the procedure, a small needle is carefully inserted into the pericardium, the protective lining surrounding the heart. This allows doctors to extract fluid from the area for further examination. Besides serving as a diagnostic tool, pericardiocentesis also offers pain relief to patients experiencing significant fluid accumulation within the pericardium.
