Pericardial Mesothelioma Symptoms

Pericardial mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that originates in the pericardium, the membrane surrounding the heart. It can manifest with various symptoms, including:

  1. Chest Pain: Individuals with pericardial mesothelioma often experience chest pain, which can range from mild discomfort to severe pain.
  2. Difficulty Breathing (Dyspnea): Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing can occur as the tumor or thickening of the pericardium puts pressure on the heart and lungs.
  3. Heart Murmurs: Abnormal heart sounds, known as heart murmurs, may be detected during a physical examination. These murmurs can be a sign of pericardial mesothelioma.
  4. Heart Palpitations or Irregular Heartbeat (Arrhythmia): Pericardial mesothelioma can disrupt the normal electrical activity of the heart, leading to irregular heartbeats or palpitations.
  5. Shortness of Breath: As the condition progresses and the pericardial sac thickens, it becomes more challenging for the heart to effectively pump blood, resulting in increased breathlessness.

It’s important to note that pericardial mesothelioma is exceptionally rare compared to other forms of mesothelioma. Symptoms typically become noticeable as the pericardial sac thickens, interfering with the heart’s ability to function proper

If you feel any of these symptoms please consult your family, family doctor and/or medical team.
