If your doctor finds any of these symptoms, he will order x-rays (of the chest or abdomen).
To determine the final mesothelioma diagnosis, you might have to go through:
MRI – magnetic resonance imaging. This helps to find lung mass.
Chest X-Ray – This gives a view of the chest cavity. Together with the help of CT Scan, this test can show lung mass, lymph nodes, etc in more detail. This helps in determining whether you have lung cancer or not. However, a biopsy is required to confirm this.
PET – positron emission tomography. This scan also helps in finding the lung mass. This kind of scan is relatively new. If the lung mass lights up on the PET scan, it shows signs of lung cancer. If it does not light up however, you are safe and have no lung cancer.
